Crews continue work on Selway River Road slide

Crews continue to work on the rockslide that shut down the Selway River Road in July.

The Lewiston Tribune Reports the road is open without flaggers during non-working hours but motorists are urged to use caution because the project is not complete.

The July 15th slide blocked the road and trapped people who live behind the slide and several who were camping.

People were redirected onto the unmaintained Swiftwater Road, a high-clearance route that comes out at Kooskia about 20 miles away. However most recreational vehicles were unable to make it out that way and had to be left behind. In August, the Selway Road was open for a few days to allow people to retrieve their campers.

Officials say the Federal Highway Administration has agreed to pay the estimated $2.3 million cost of repairing the road. (Lewiston Tribune)
