Washington Democratic U.S. Senator Patty Murray was re-elected to serve a 6th term by Evergreen State voters.
Murray, who defeated Republican Tiffany Smiley, has served 30 years in the Senate – placing her behind only Democratic Sens. Warren Magnuson and Henry “Scoop” Jackson for longest service in the Senate from the Evergreen State. Washington has not elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate since 1994.
Meanwhile, incumbent Republican Cathy McMorris Rodgers defeated Democrat Natasha Hill in Washington’s race for the state’s 5th Congressional District seat.
McMorris Rodgers will be serving her 10th term in Washington D.C. and is in line to be chairperson of the House’s Committee on Energy & Commerce, if Republicans take control of the chamber.
