Warrior basketball teams face tall tasks in season openers

The Lewis-Clark State men’s and women’s basketball teams will know a lot about themselves this weekend when both open their respective seasons with big tests against two of the NAIA’s heaviest hitters.

The Warrior men are in Glendale, Arizona Friday night for a stiff test with top-ranked Arizona Christian.

LC is coming off a 22-11 season that saw them overcome adversity brought on by a key injury and the COVID pandemic. The Firestorm, received 15 first place votes in the national poll, and are coming off an impressive 31-5 season that saw them advance to the national semi-final game.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Glendale.

Meanwhile, the 22nd ranked Warrior women open the year at home against 2nd ranked Westmont of California.

LC is coming off a 28-5 season a year ago and another trip to the NAIA National Opening Round Tournament. Westmont went 27-5 last season and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament Final site in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tip-off is set for noon Saturday inside the P1FCU Activity Center with live coverage in the LC Valley on 95.5 FM and AM 950 KOZE and streaming free online at koze.com.
