Algal blooms at Winchester and Mann lakes reported

The Public Health – Idaho North Central District has issued a health warning after algal blooms were discovered at both Winchester and Mann lakes.

Recent samples taken of the lakes showed that both had elevated levels of toxins, produced by cyanobacteria.

Residents are asked to use caution in or near the lakes.

Humans, pets and livestock shouldn’t drink the affected water; humans and animals, including pets and livestock should stay out of the affected water; swimming and wading should be avoided; fish caught in the lakes should be cleaned and rinsed with clean water, and only the fillet portion should be eaten.
