Recent rains and cooler weather continue to benefit crews working to contain the Williams Creek Fire burning near the Idaho County backcountry community of Orogrande on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.
Fire managers are currently deciding what roads and trails can be safely reopened to public access but no closures are expected to be lifted before this weekend.
Firefighters have gained ground on the lightning-caused blaze and some crews are dismantling pumps and removing equipment that’s no longer needed.
The fire has grown slightly and is now listed at just over 16,000 acres and is 31% contained.
