Three wildfires along U.S. Highway 195 south of Spokane yesterday (Wed) forced the temporary evacuation of several homes and the closure of a portion of the highway.

Crews were able to stop the fires’ spread before they could reach homes. Residents were allowed to return home and evacuation levels were lowered to Level 2, meaning people need to be ready to leave at a moments notice.

Several homes and structures were threatened, but none were lost.

The highway was re-opened and crews estimate the fires are now 50 percent contained.

Firefighters are expecting to gain more ground today (Thurs) and mop-up efforts will follow once the blazes are fully contained.

The cause of the fires is unknown and is under investigation.
