A strong thunderstorm that produced high winds and hail Thursday caused crop and home damage in Lewis and Idaho counties.

The storm, which hit late Thursday afternoon had winds reportedly in excess of 50 miles-per-hour that knocked trees down and produced hail that broke out windows in several homes on the Camas Prairie and destroyed several crops. At least one home reportedly lost part of it’s roof.

U.S. Highway 12 just west of Kamiah was closed for more than an hour after several trees were knocked down blocking the road in both directions Thursday. Crews were able to re-open the road just after 7 p.m. Power was lost in Kamiah and several trees were snapped off in town.

Another strong storm Friday produced several lightning strikes and downpours.

Wildland firefighting agencies in the area reported smoke following the lightning storms and were assessing response needs.
