
Idaho State Police are investigating a vehicle collision that occurred around 2 a.m. this (Thurs) morning on U.S. Highway 12 near milepost 63 in Lewis County.
A Lewis County Deputy was westbound while attempting to make a traffic stop when the patrol vehicle was struck from behind by a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup. The patrol vehicle overturned on the roadway and the Dodge struck the guardrail and then went off the road and came to rest against a steep upward embankment.
The male driver of the Dodge left the scene in another vehicle. A female passenger in the Dodge was uninjured.
The Deputy was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino and treated for minor injuries.
The highway was completely blocked for approximately 3 hours.
Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Kamiah Ambulance, and Kamiah Fire Department assisted on scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
