Selway River Road could take up to two weeks to re-open

It could be as long as two weeks before the Selway River Road can re-open following Friday’s rockslide.

Crews had been waiting for the slide to stop moving before beginning the clearing process. However, the Forest Service must also conduct an archaeological review of the rock before cleanup can begin.

The rock slide happened Friday about 1 mile up the Selway River Road past Three Rivers Resort. Officials estimated the rock slide mass at about 28,000 yards of material and reaching about 170 feet up the hillside.

Two rugged alternate routes that require high clearance vehicles to navigate have been established in the meantime.
