Lewiston City Councilor Luke Blount has resigned after less than a year.

Blount submitted a letter of resignation to Lewiston Mayor Dan Johnson and city councilors describing his choice as a “necessary thing” at this time. He didn’t go into detail about his decision.

Blount was among a group of new city councilors selected by Lewiston residents in November when they voted to move the community from a city manager to a strong mayor form of government.

Applications for Blount’s position are available at the city clerk’s office at Lewiston City Hall at 1134 F St. and need to be submitted to the city clerk no later than Aug. 15th.

Johnson will select Blount’s replacement in an appointment that requires a simple majority vote of the city council for confirmation. The individual selected in that process will serve until the next general election, in which someone will be selected to serve the remainder of Blount’s term, which ends in December 2023.
