The Lewiston City Council will hold a hearing on an appeal of a Planning and Zoning Commission decision to allow a permanent homeless shelter with space for as many as 35 individuals.

The hearing on the shelter, known as the LC Valley Adult Resource Center, will be held June 13th. The proposed location for the shelter is 1332 G St. in a vacant two-story building that previously housed Inland Cellular operations.

The temporary site of a winter warming shelter at Lewiston’s Salvation Army on 21st Street is closing May 31st, before the city of Lewiston reaches a final decision about if it can move to a permanent site. The warming shelter currently has 20 overnight beds.

If approved, officials say the new shelter will need between two and four weeks to prepare the site once the city reaches a final decision and won’t close on a deal to purchase the proposed property unless the city approves it. (Lewiston Tribune)
