Crews continue to remove rocks and debris at a major slide near the summit of White Bird Hill along U.S. Highway 95 south of Grangeville.

The slide, which occurred Monday, had been reduced to a single-lane. More rocks and debris came loose Wednesday, and the Idaho Transportation Department has brought in shipping containers to shield the road.

Prior to the additional material falling, the slide was 120 feet deep and 50 feet wide. Transportation officials say rocks ranged in size from 6 inches to 6 feet wide. Department officials estimate that an equal amount of loose debris remains near the top of the slope and it’s believed more will likely come down as more rain is forecast for the area over the next few days.  (Idaho Transportation Department)
