The city of Lewiston officially made the change to a strong mayor form of government last night as the new city council and mayor were sworn in.

Outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Schroeder — the only returning councilor — Hannah Liedkie, former councilor and former Mayor Jim Kleeburg, Luke Blount, Kassee Forsmann and Rick Tousley all took the oath of office after new Mayor Dan Johnson. Liedkie was voted council President on a 5-1 vote.

The council addressed two issues during Monday’s meeting.

The first was passing an ordinance that revised Chapter 2 of city code regarding administration to change things like references to “city manager” to “mayor” and set out the duties and responsibilities of the mayor and council.

The council also voted 4-2 to revisit the proposed purchase of the former Twin City Foods property just to the north of the library. The former council came close to purchasing the 11.5 acre site last month, but opted to leave the matter in the hands of the new council. No decision was made, but the new council will take it under consideration. (Lewiston Tribune)
