After nearly 32 years of dedicated service to the community, Lewiston Police Chief Budd Hurd announced Wednesday that he will be retiring this summer.

Hurd has served in the department’s top role since September of 2018. In 1990, Hurd graduated from Lewis-Clark State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and joined the Lewiston Police Department shortly after, starting out as a patrol officer and eventually working his way into a school resource officer position.

In 2005, he was promoted to Corporal; in 2008 he moved up to Sergeant; in 2012 he was promoted to the position of Lieutenant, and he remained in this role until 2018 when he was appointed as Interim Chief, eventually being selected for the official appointment of the Chief of Police later that year.

Hurd will officially step down from his post in July. (City of Lewiston)
