A Lewiston man was arrested after breaking windows with a baseball bat at Effie’s Tavern in downtown Lewiston early Friday morning.
According to Lewiston Police, 33-year-old Cody Stevenson was arrested on the scene and charged with felony malicious injury to property, for causing damages estimated to exceed $1,000 in value. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly giving false information to law enforcement.
Officers responded to the restaurant at around 12:40 a.m. Friday after upstairs neighbors reported someone bashing in the windows and the front door with a baseball bat.
The maximum punishment for the felony vandalism charge includes up to five years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Restaurant owners hope to have the business re-opened early this week.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe account has been set up with a goal of $5,000.
