
Idaho State Police are teaming with other nearby states and local law enforcement agencies in efforts to keep people safe during the New Year Holiday weekend.
More troopers will be on duty for emphasis patrols through the weekend looking for impaired and aggressive drivers.
Last year over New Year’s weekend, Idaho State Police Troopers arrested 52 people charged with driving under the influence.
Traffic fatalities in Idaho are at a 15-year high. As of Dec 16th, the Idaho Transportation Department Office of Highway Safety reported at least 254 people had been killed in traffic crashes. That compares to 195 traffic fatalities through the same date last year and the most fatalities in a single year since 2006.
ISP reminds motorists to never drink and drive. Designate a sober driver if alcohol will be part of New Year celebrations, and always buckle up when inside a vehicle.
