Bengal hoops teams advance to semis at Avista Tourney

Katy Wessells put up 22 points in leading the Lewiston High girl’s basketball team to a 52-48 win over Grangeville in the first day of the 9thh annual Avista Holiday Tournament at the P1FCU Activity Center at Lewis-Clark State College yesterday (Tue). The Bengals improve to 6-4 on the year, and will face Richland in the tournament semifinals today (Wed) at 4:30 p.m.

Meanwhile the Lewiston boys rolled to a 75-24 win over Grangeville to open the tournament. Every player who saw the floor scored, led by Carson Way who poured in 16 points. The unbeaten Bengals advance to a semifinal game today (Wed) against Moscow at 3:00 p.m. Live coverage of both Bengal games can be heard locally on The River 105.1 FM and streaming free online at bengalsports.com.

In other tournament games yesterday: The Lapwai boys cruised to a 70-46 win over Kellogg; the Moscow boys knocked off the Lewiston Junior Varsity 78-49; and the Clarkston boys beat Annie Wright of Tacoma 62-50.

In the girl’s tournament: Richland downed Moscow 41-31; Lapwai held off Soda Springs 55-53; and Post Falls beat Clarkston 65-55.

The tournaments continue today (Wed) and run through tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
