A home on Lewiston’s Normal Hill sustained heavy damage following a fire early this (Tue) morning. No injuries were reported.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded to the blaze at 1:25 a.m. after receiving a report of a possible chimney fire on the 400 block of Sixth Avenue.

When crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the building’s second-story windows and eaves, and active fire was found inside the first floor and had spread inside the walls of the structure.

The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes and crews stayed on scene for another 90 minutes to make sure all hot spots were out.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was by extension from the fireplace into the structure. The home sustained an estimated $35,000 in damage which included the structure itself and its contents.  (Lewiston Fire Department)
