The Lewiston High School football team came up just short of the Inland Empire League title last night during a three-team Kansas Tie-Breaker at Moscow’s Bear Field.

The Bengals defeated Post Falls in the opening game of the round robin format with a 35-yard field goal by senior Thor Kessinger. It was Kessinger’s first successful field goal of the year, and only his second attempted.

Post Falls then lost to top-see Coeur d’Alene – ending the Post Falls season and setting up a best two-out-of-three between the Bengals and the Vikings.

Lewiston defeated Coeur d’Alene by converting a two-point conversion pass from senior Jace McKarcher to junior Elliott Taylor in the first series.

However, Coeur d’Alene’s defense took over the rest of the way as the Viking downed Lewiston in the final two series to claim the league title, along with a first round state playoff bye and a home game in the quarterfinals.

The Bengals, as the league’s #2 seed will host Boise’s Capital High Friday night in an Idaho State 5-A Opening Round Playoff Game at Bengal Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm with pre-game coverage at 6:40 pm on The River 105.1 FM and streaming free online at bengalsports.com.
