Region reports highest single day death total since pandemic began

Regional health officials reported 8 coronavirus-related deaths and 128 combined new COVID cases Tuesday.

All the deaths were in the north central Idaho region, and officials say its the most single-day deaths reported since the pandemic began.

Nez Perce County’s number of new infections rose by 19 with 3 deaths; Latah County also reported 19 new cases and one death; Clearwater County saw its number of infections climb by 10 along with 2 virus-related deaths; Idaho County added 8 new cases and 2 deaths; and Lewis County also reported 8 new COVID infections Tuesday.

In southeastern Washington: Whitman County had the highest number of new virus cases in the region with 45; Asotin County’s number of new infections rose by 17; and Garfield County reported 2 new coronavirus cases Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Latah County Commissioners have voted to require visitors and employees to wear face masks inside county buildings beginning today (Wed). The move specifically applies to the Latah County Courthouse, the Latah County Annex where vehicle licensing among other departments is housed, and the McConnell Mansion, but will not extend to the Latah County Fair, scheduled for Thursday through Sunday in Moscow.
