Clarkston to administer sewer main smoke test

clarkston

The City of Clarkston has contracted with Keller Associates to perform a wastewater collection study on the City’s existing sewer system.

To assess the condition of the existing system, a smoke test will be performed. The test involves the use of smoke generating equipment to determine cracked or damaged portions of pipe and manholes. That test will be conducted Monday through Friday of next week between the hours of 6 am and 2 pm. White smoke will be dispensed into the sewer and will likely appear out of multiple nearby manholes, damaged pipes, or other connected structures as the smoke travels throughout the sewer system.

Any presence of white smoke escaping the sewer during those dates and times is not cause for alarm. The smoke is no danger to citizens and traffic will be appropriately directed around the equipment.
