Two Pullman homes were destroyed by fire Sunday.

The Pullman Fire Department responded to a fire on the 800 block of Northeast Maple Street around 1 p.m. with a report of a tree on fire. When crews arrived the fire had spread to a deck area and nearby hillside.

Embers carried by gusty winds touched off another fire at a house on the 400 block of Northeast Howard Street about a block away.

Crews were able to extinguish the fires, but both homes were considered complete losses, displacing 12 Washington State University students.

One firefighter was injured while battling the hillside fire. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the original fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross and Washington State University are working with the students to arranged temporary housing. (Lewiston Tribune)
