The Lewis-Clark State basketball teams opened the Cascade Conference best-of-three playoffs with wins over in-state rival College of Idaho Thursday night in Lewiston.
In the women’s game, Kiara Burlage posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the 24th ranked Warriors downed the Coyotes 56-40. Abbie Johnson added 15 points and 6 steals in the win. Defensively, LC forced 28 turnovers in improving to 11-5 on the year. College of Idaho falls to 4-13.
Meanwhile, the 4th ranked Warrior men overcame an 8 point second half deficit on their way to a 74-71 win over the Coyotes. Damek Mitchell led the way with 19 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds for LC. The senior from Bellingham, Washington made two technical foul free throws with less than 5 seconds left to secure the win. Lewiston’s Trystan Bradley added 14 points and Clarkston native Jake Albright had 14 points and a team-high 7 assists as the LC men upped their record to 15-1. The College of Idaho men fell to 7-8.
The series shifts to Caldwell for another double-header Sunday afternoon with the women’s game at 2pm Pacific Time and the men’s game to follow at 4pm. Both games can be heard on AM 950 KOZE and online at koze.com.
