Three Lewis-Clark State College student-athletes have been named Cascade Conference Athletes of the Week.
Cross country’s Cole Olsen and women’s basketball’s Abbie Johnson each earned their second awards of the season, while baseball’s Tallon Thomason earned his first nod as a Warrior.
Olsen dominated Friday when we won the LC State Winter Invitational One by nearly a minute-and-a-half. His time of 24:01 is the second-fastest time by a senior in the program record books. The Clearwater native led the Warrior men to their second team victory of the season. The Warriors host the LC State Winter Invitational Two Feb. 26th. The meet will serve as the final tune up for the Cascade Conference Championships on March 26th, which will also be held in the Lewiston Orchards.
Johnson had one of the best weekends of her career in the two-game set against NCAA DII Montana State-Billings. The senior led the 24thh ranked Warriors to victory in Friday’s contest with a career-high 26 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals while draining 13 shots from the foul line. In game two, Johnson made a career-best 10 field goals to go along with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. The Cashmere, Washington native shot 53.3 percent from the floor and averaged 24 points per game. The LC State women turn their attention to the Cascade Conference Playoff starting Wednesday. The Warriors will host the College of Idaho in game one of a best-of-three series. Game two will be played in Caldwell, with the if-necessary game three location being determined by a coin flip.
Thomason earned his first accolade as a Warrior after a stellar outing out of the bullpen for No. 24 LC State. The senior transfer took over on the mound in the eighth inning and finished the game in the 11th to help LC upset No. 19 Benedictine Mesa. The Las Vegas native struck out five in his four innings and did not allow an earned run while picking up his second win. LC State will take a two-week break before hosting Oregon Tech on Feb. 27th and 28th to open Cascade Conference play.
