Masks now required at Lewiston schools

Lewiston schools Superintendent Bob Donaldson has announced all students and staff are now required to wear masks inside district buildings.

The mandate was announced Sunday through an email to staff and parents and seeks to keep the district in the “green” phase of operation, which provides face-to-face instruction to students every day.

Donaldson pointed to the recent uptick in infections reported in the district over the past two weeks. On Friday, the district reported it had 60 total cases of COVID-19 since the start of the school year, with 43 currently active. There are more than 5,000 students in the Lewiston School District.

The district already required face coverings in certain situations like when students were entering or exiting a building, in common spaces, or during transition times at the secondary levels.

The school board plans to discuss the mandate at its next meeting on Nov. 9th when it hears an update on COVID-19 protocols throughout the district. (Lewiston Tribune)
