Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the University of Idaho Homecoming will still go on in a different form. Familiar events such as the 71st annual blood drive, canned food drive, royalty crowning and fireworks will take place throughout the week from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Saturday, Oct. 10; The theme is “Sweet Home U of I.”
Food drive locations are available throughout the Moscow community and will benefit local food banks and the Vandal Food Pantry. The “Food Fight” drive will be a monthlong campaign to help fight food insecurity. Virtual engagement opportunities include a virtual 5K fun run, trivia nights and scavenger hunt. Royalty will be crowned at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, during a small ceremony. The crowning will be broadcast live on Facebook and Instagram at #IdahoHomecoming. The week will conclude with the Idaho Central Credit Union Fireworks Extravaganza at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Guy Wicks Field. Attendees are encouraged to park along Perimeter Drive or sit within the safety zone of the complex, wear masks and social distance. Attendees of the drive-in movie before the fireworks are encouraged to stay parked in the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center parking lot to watch the display.
