Asotin County to receive $800,000 in COVID-19 transportation assistance

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has announced a grant award of more than $889,000 to the Asotin County Public Transportation Benefit Area in Clarkston, as part of the CARES Act, signed by President Trump in late March.

The Asotin County PTBA will use the grant funds for operating assistance and it’s on-demand paratransit service, Dial-a-Ride, during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

In addition to the CARES Act funding, FTA issued a Safety Advisory that prompts transit agencies to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding face coverings and Personal Protective Equipment, cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, physical separation, and hand hygiene consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidance.

CARES Act funding can be used to cover 100 percent of those costs. (U.S. Department of Transportation)
