Several area schools will honor their seniors Friday by turning their sports complex lights on as part of the “Be The Light” campaign, which began in Dumas, Texas in late March.
The idea is to let senior athletes and extra curricular participants know that while their final seasons and programs have come to an end, the community is still thinking of them.
At 8:20pm Friday football fields, baseball fields and other athletic venues will turn their lights on for 20 minutes.
Community members are encouraged to maintain social distancing by driving by, and in many cases, honking their horns to acknowledge the tribute.
At least eleven area school districts are taking part in some way, including Lewiston, Moscow, Grangeville, Orofino, Kamiah, Clearwater Valley, Highland, Nezperce, Prairie, Timberline and Salmon River.
In Lewiston, the event is set for Bengal Field.
In Moscow, the event will be staged at the football and baseball fields by the middle school.
Grangeville, Salmon River, Highland, Clearwater Valley, Prairie and Timberline will turn on the lights at their respective football fields, Orofino plans to light up all stadium lights, Kamiah’s event will be held at the Bob Squires Complex, and Nezperce staff members will be parked in the parking lot and shining their vehicle lights.
