The celebration over Washington State men’s basketball team’s upset win over Colorado to open the Pac-12 tournament Wednesday was short-lived, as conference officials on Thursday canceled the rest of the tournament amid the growing coronavirus outbreak that has shut down a wide swath of college and professional sports. CJ Elleby had 30 points and 10 rebounds in the Cougars’ 82-68 win, which will likely be WAZZU’s final game of the season. The Pac-12 joined several other major conferences, including the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Big 12 and Southeastern, in making the move to stop playing games. The cancellation of so many tournaments imperiled the NCAA tournament, though there was no official announcement. On Wednesday, it had been announced that NCAA tournament games – including those in Spokane next week – would be played in empty arenas. (Los Angeles Times)
