The Washington Legislature has failed to pass bills limiting how many rounds gun magazines can hold and what guns can be sold. Majority Democratic lawmakers knew earlier this month the proposed ban on firearms defined as assault weapons did not have the votes to proceed. Meanwhile, the high-capacity limit bill passed out of House and Senate committees but never came up on the floor for debate before a Wednesday deadline. Republicans opposed to the measure filed an unusually high number of amendments, meaning debate could last a day or more. Aberdeen Republican Representative Jim Walsh alone submitted six amendments and admitted the maneuver was at least partially a political ploy to prevent debate on what he deemed bad policy. (AP)
