The Idaho House will consider an increase in the state’s grocery tax credit. The House Revenue and Taxation Committee on Monday sent to the full chamber the bill to implement a $135 grocery tax credit for all Idahoans. The current credit is $120 for those 65 and older and $100 for everyone else. The credit was originally devised to offset the impact of Idaho’s 6 percent sales tax on food items for residents who file an income tax form or separate tax credit form. The bill’s estimated $48 million price tag would be covered by the sales tax on online purchases, from which the revenue is currently dedicated to tax relief. The measure, backed by House Speaker Scott Bedke and members of both parties, was sent to the full House with a favorable recommendation. (Lewiston Tribune)
