Lawmaker introduces bill to completely ban abortions in Idaho

A conservative northern Idaho lawmaker has introduced a bill to ban all abortions in the Gem State. The measure by Republican Representative Heather Scott of Blanchard would make it illegal for any person to perform or procure an abortion and also repeal a section of Idaho Code that prohibits the prosecution of abortion as murder. The bill contains no exceptions, though it would exempt any medical practitioner attempting to save the life of a pregnant woman who, in the process, accidentally kills her child any time from the moment of conception up to the birth of the child, and also allows prosecutors to grant immunity to mothers who assists in the investigation of all involved in the abortion of her child. Scott cited in the measure what she called Idaho’s lawful authority to ignore the Federal Judiciary’s ruling of legalizing abortion – in other words, the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v Wade decision in 1973. Scott’s bill was introduced in the House Friday and referred to the Judicial Rules and Administration Committee. Last year, Scott and then-Representative John Green unsuccessfully attempted to make abortion tantamount to murder in Idaho. In 2017, Former Republican Moscow Senator Dan Foreman proposed a bill that would charge the woman and the doctor with first-degree murder. (KTVB, Kootenai Valley Times)
