Idaho’s unemployment rate holds at 2.9% in December

Idaho’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 2-point-9 percent in December for the sixth consecutive month.

An additional 2,300 people made themselves available for work in December, pushing Idaho’s labor force up to 889,000. The percentage of Idahoans age 16 years or older working or looking for work moved up slightly to 64.2 percent.

Nine of Idaho’s 11 industry sectors exceeded seasonal expectations, with the largest over-the-month increases for December reported by information; construction; and leisure and hospitality. One sector – professional and business services – fell short of seasonal expectations, while total natural resources jobs remained unchanged from November.

Nez Perce County’s unemployment rate was 3 percent in December; Latah County 2.6 percent; Lewis County 5.8 percent; Idaho County 4.5 percent; and Clearwater County 5.4 percent.  (Idaho Department of Labor)
