Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra proposes a 5.3 percent increase in public school funding to just under $2 billion from the state’s general fund.
Ybarra Thursday made the request to the Legislature’s Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, asking for some $100 million more than last year’s budget, and about $20 million above Governor Brad Little’s request. The state spends about half of its budget on K-12 education to instruct 300,000 in Idaho’s 115 school districts.
Ybarra’s overall budget, including federal money, is about $2.3 billion.
JFAC won’t decide on the spending plan until later in the legislative session. (AP)
