Clarkston City Council OKs hikes in sewer, garbage rates

clarkston

The Clarkston City Council has approved increases in residential and commercial sewer and garbage rates for next year.

The sewer rate will rise 15 percent, which amounts to an additional $4 to $5 per month for most residences, and close to $10 monthly for commercial properties. Councilors also greenlighted a 10 percent boost to garbage rates that is expected to add about $2.30 to monthly bills.

Public works officials say the money is needed to replace garbage trucks, while the sewer hike will help build reserves to maintain the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

The council opted to hold off for now on charging rental fees for garbage dumpsters until more is known on the impact for both residents and businesses. (Lewiston Tribune)
