A former Pullman police officer will not be retried on charges of custodial sexual misconduct.
An 18-year-old female Washington State University student had alleged former sergeant Dan Hargraves sexually assaulted her while she was intoxicated and in his custody in March 2018. Hargraves, a 19-year-veteran of the department, stood trial in Whitman County for nearly two weeks before a judge last month declared a mistrial when the jury could not reach a verdict.
Whitman County Prosecutor Denis Tracy says that while he believes the facts supported a conviction in a second proceeding, the alleged victim in the case isn’t willing to go through the additional trauma of another trial. (Lewiston Tribune)
