The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is investigating the poaching of a deer near Weippe.

The agency responded to a report Tuesday afternoon of a white-tailed buck shot and left to waste along Lacy Meadows Road at the junction of Brown’s Ridge Road southeast of Weippe. Evidence points to the deer being shot in the dark on the evening of October 7th or early morning of October 8th with aid of an artificial light.

The head was the only part of the animal taken from the kill site.

There was no open hunting season for deer in that area.

Anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call Fish and Game at 208-791-5118, or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. (IDFG)
