Extended deadline nears for filing Idaho income tax returns

Time is running out for those who received extensions to file 2018 Idaho state income tax returns. The Idaho State Tax Commission says taxpayers who qualified for an automatic extension to file must send in their return and full payment by Tuesday, October 15th.

Officials expect to receive about 37,000 individual income tax returns this month – in addition to the 854,000 returns already received so far this year.

Idaho law allows taxpayers to avoid a penalty for filing a late return if an extension was granted. But filers still owe 5 percent interest on any tax that was due and not paid by April 15th.

Income tax returns may be filed electronically, and some may qualify to file online for free.
