Snake River Ave. railroad track removal, Hells Gate State Park road work begin Monday

traffic-alert-2

Next week will see the final removal of abandoned railroad tracks along Lewiston’s Snake River Avenue.

Beginning Monday, the city will work with the Great Northwest Railroad-WATCO in removing the tracks from D Street to the south end of Kiwanis Park. The work will be done between 7 AM and 5 PM for the next two weeks.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures along Snake River Avenue, and there may also be limited pedestrian access to Kiwanis Park. The Idaho Transportation Department plans to also remove tracks across the Interstate Bridge and the Levee Bypass at a later time.

Meanwhile, month-long surface preservation work on several Hells Gate State Park roadways is scheduled to begin Monday.

The $680,000 project is scheduled for the entire main road from the park entrance to the stop sign near the entrance of Cottonwood Loop, as well as at the boat launch facility, which may be closed periodically during that time.

No work will take place on the weekends from 6 PM on Fridays until 6 AM the following Mondays. However, construction may be performed at night with the exception of all campgrounds south of Tammany Creek Bridge, and traffic delays will be limited to 20 minutes.
