Avista electricity rates in Idaho may rise in October despite small reductions

Avista Utilities on Tuesday filed a request with Idaho regulators for two minor rate reductions, though Gem State customers could still see their bills increase this fall.

Earlier this month, the company asked for a hike effective October 1st to make up for less-than-anticipated revenue due to higher-than-normal temperatures last winter.

The increase would be partially offset by Tuesday’s request for slight decreases, prompted by lower power generation costs, and a higher payment from the Bonneville Power Administration Residential Exchange Program, which gives a share of the revenue from the federal Columbia River power system to residential and small farm customers of investor-owned utilities in the Pacific Northwest, including Avista.

All told, an average residential customer using 898 kilowatt-hours a month might see their monthly bill rise by about $2.50 if the Idaho Public Utilities Commission approves the proposals. (Lewiston Tribune)
