An Anacortes, Washington man has died as a result of serious injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning in Grangeville.

Idaho State Police say 69-year-old Fredrick Smith was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a group of other riders just after 10am when they approached the intersection of Idaho State Highway 13 and U.S. Highway 95.

The first rider pulled out onto the southbound lane of Highway 95 and Smith followed, pulling out in front of a 1997 Kenworth tractor-trailer hauling a load of logs driven by 39-year-old Nicholas Bendawald of Emmett, Idaho. Bendawald attempted to stop but was unable to, and the truck hit Smith.

Smith was taken to Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville, then flown to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston where he succumbed to his injuries.

The roadway was blocked for about three and a half hours.

Smith was wearing a helmet.

The investigation is ongoing. (Idaho State Police)
