An Orofino man has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for death of his infant daughter.

29-year-old Daniel Alldrin entered an Alford plea to second-degree murder in May as part of a binding agreement that reduced his original charge of first-degree murder and ensured he would serve prison time if accepted by the judge. An Alford plea is an admission by a defendant that a jury could find guilt based on the evidence, but stops short of admitting guilt.

Clearwater County 2nd District Judge Gregory FitzMaurice accepted the agreement and gave Alldrin credit for the 1,010 days he has spent in various county jails while the case was adjudicated.

The Alford plea allows Alldrin to appeal the decision within 42 days of the sentencing.

Casandra Alldrin died in Spokane after several surgeons and doctors were unable to repair damage to the infant’s internal injuries and her organs failed.

She died in May 2016, and Alldrin was arrested on the murder charge almost six months later.  (Lewiston Tribune)
