A judge in Washington state will decide if a youth charged with shooting four classmates at Freeman High School in 2017 will be tried as an adult.

Closing arguments were held Monday in a week-long hearing for 17-year-old Caleb Sharpe.

He is accused of opening fire in a hallway, killing one classmate and wounding three others.

Spokane County prosecutors argued that releasing Sharpe from custody at age 21 was not appropriate for a crime that was carefully planned and executed.

But an attorney for the youth says juvenile court was designed to deal with juveniles, and that Sharpe could be rehabilitated by age 21.

Sharpe was 15 at the time on the shootings.

He faces one charge of first degree murder and three charges of attempted first-degree murder. (AP)
