A wildfire that threatens homes, crops, and a feedlot in central Washington has grown to 7,800 acres.

Some 250 personnel have the Powerline Fire 65 percent contained as it burns in grass and sagebrush of the Saddle Mountains near the Grant County town of Mattawa, close to the Columbia River.

County and state officials say some people have been ordered to evacuate their homes, while others were told to be prepared to evacuate.

The blaze was first reported Sunday afternoon, allegedly started by the spark from a recreational motorcycle’s muffler.   (AP, Fire Management Team)
