Idaho students lost ground on the SAT college entrance exam for the second year in a row.

According to state data released Monday, the average score of Idaho SAT test takers was 976 points, out of a total 1,600. That’s 13 points lower than the 2018 average, and 20 points below 2017 scores.

The SAT, a national test used for college admissions, is taken annually by more than 95 percent of Idaho juniors, or nearly 23,000 students. Students are considered college-and career-ready when their SAT scores meet both benchmarks in math at 530, and reading and writing at 480. Only 31 percent of Idaho students met both benchmarks, the same as last year, while 42 percent met neither benchmark. 56 percent met the reading and writing benchmark, while about one third met the math benchmark.

Juniors at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy scored the highest average of any districts or charters in Idaho, at 1,279 points. Other school districts that outpaced state average include the Troy School District, with an average of 1,136, and Moscow at 1,103.

The Lewiston School District’s average came it at 968, and Orofino Joint School District 171’s average score was 934.  (Idaho EdNews)
