Washington agency suspends chinook fishing on Snake River

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has closed its two-day-a-week chinook salmon fishing season on the Snake River near Clarkston.

The expected closure was made in solidarity with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s move to suspend chinook salmon fishing on the Clearwater River and its tributaries because the return of adult chinook is lagging far behind projections, and too few may return to hatcheries to meet spawning goals.

Washington closed the Snake River near Clarkston because that fishery largely targets Clearwater-bound chinook.

Washington’s chinook season on the Snake River near Little Goose Dam will proceed as scheduled Saturday and Sunday, and Idaho’s season on the lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers near Riggins runs Thursday through Sunday. (Lewiston Tribune)
