Fire crews are battling a fire eight miles north of Harvard in the vicinity of Meadow Creek.

The Prospect Fire is about 300 acres in size and is burning in heavy timber slash.

Idaho Department of Lands is being assisted with resources and personnel from the US Forest Service, Nez Perce Tribe, Clearwater Potlatch Timber Protection Association and PotlachDeltic. The fire is currently being managed as a Type 3 incident, however a Type 2 Team has been ordered and will take command of the fire Wednesday morning.

Currently 6 engines plus heavy equipment are on scene with additional assets in route. Air resources have been ordered including a Type 3 helicopter to perform reconnaissance gathering including information on the fire’s size and behavior to allow for safe engagement by fire personnel.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Fire managers say weather may bring thunderstorms to the area with increasing winds out of the southwest. Fire spots have been reported up to a half mile from the fire line.

A temporary flight restriction is in effect to provide a safe environment for fire aircraft operations.  (Idaho Department of Lands)
