People in the L-C Valley are invited to kick-off the New Year with the annual Polar Bear plunge into the Snake River Tuesday.

As many as 150 people are expected for the event, which takes place at Noon at the boat ramp of the Hells Canyon Marina in Clarkston.

Organizers say water temperatures could dip below 40 degrees.

Three lifeguards will be on duty and emergency medical technicians will stand by.

Participants are recommended to fill up with a hearty breakfast that includes sugar, which helps generate body heat, and to have some sort of light shoes and to bring towels, stocking hats, and a Thermos full of a hot beverage for after the plunge. (Lewiston Tribune)
