The University of Idaho has fallen well short of the State Board of Education’s target reserve range for fiscal year 2018.

Audit reports presented to board members Thursday showed UofI experienced a $21 million loss, making the university one of two institutions that didn’t meet the board’s 5 percent reserve target this year. The Moscow school was hurt by enrollment figures, which fell by more than 2.5 percent this fall.

The reserve money can be used to bridge “uneven cash flows,” according to information provided to the board.

UofI, at minus 1.6 percent, is the only one of the state’s four-year institutions that fell into the negatives.

Both Lewis-Clark State College at 5.1 percent, and Idaho State University at 5.7 percent met the reserve threshold, while Boise State was 3.75 percent.  (Lewiston Tribune)
