Interim Lewiston Police Chief Budd Hurd has been chosen as the permanent hire to lead the department.

City council members and city manager Alan Nygaard agreed on the 28-year veteran of the LPD to become its new chief. The 59-year-old Hurd has been serving as interim chief since February following the departure of former chief Chris Ankeny, who resigned in January after nearly three years in charge.

Hurd beat out three other finalists for the position – former Lewiston officer Scott Mullennix, a member of the campus safety leadership team for Spokane Public Schools; Vancouver Washington assistant police chief Mike Lester; and Prince William County Virginia Police Deputy District Comander Thomas Garrity.
